PIF was "reborn" in March 2015, when the Kingdom’s Council of Ministers issued Resolution 270, linking the Public Investment Fund to the Council of Economic and Development Affairs , following which the Fund's Board of Directors was reconstituted to be chaired by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

 The Council was established on January 29, 2015. Under the chairmanship of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Council aims to coordinate economic and development matters in a manner that prevents duplication and achieves greater engagement between the relevant ministries in the Council's work.
